Not all days are sunshine and rainbows…

Todays drive was less than appealing, but the hard part is over and it’s time to relax. Our Harvest Host spot for the night is a quaint little Bed and Breakfast…but apparently for some reason I don’t qualify to park in the fenced in field and get Freedom some exercise…nor do I get to hook up to power, get the wifi (Or Wifey as my buddy Andre says in Germany) code or anything else they have mentioned on their site. So…we are basically parked in their front driveway on a very busy road. I will choose to look at it as merely a safe in-between point between here and there.

Freedom is glad we are off the road, it was a long one and boy was it BuMpY! Mississippi and Louisiana you really need to do something about those moguls on the 70mph highways, I thought I was driving the General in an old Dukes of Hazzard episode and Uncle Jessy is about to be really pissed off. I was when I pulled over at a rest stop to find everything that I had stored in my kitchen sink had bounced out, along with the whole utensil drawer and it’s contents lol.

What I was thinking in between the moments of catching air was about all the timber mills I’ve passed while driving in the low country. Big HUGE mills with acres and acres of raw stock and just as many of finished lumber ready for your next building project. Lumber represents to me what one would call their morals. When you first install it, it has strength and integrity…but over time the boards get punky, soft and weak. Even with regular maintenance…these boards need replacing over time…just like with us. Sometimes it’s easy…sometimes not so much.

This trip for me is about replacing some of those boards before a wall comes down or a foot goes through the floor. So far, I seem to be catching up with myself pretty well and today marks my midway point of the journey. We have lots of things to see and do yet so please stay tuned for what’s in store during the second half! In a way…I can call this dud of a host my “intermission”…time to grab a beer and a bag of jelly beans and get ready for the good stuff!

I’ve left the balmy 86F temperatures and traded them in for the upper 40’s (Still not a foot of snow, and I don’t have to clean the driveway tomorrow like many of you). Fortunately I have several set of long johns with me and plenty of great hoodies and propane to keep us toasty as we head east next week through Tennessee. I am excited to unhook in Memphis and get downtown to walk around…hoping for at least a little sun and maybe a place for dinner with outdoor seating for me and the pooch and some live music.

Nashville will be next in line, still not sure about staying there or not…there are openings at the Graceland RV Park, but I am limited with Freedom on being able to go indoors to see anything. We’ll see, if the weather is nice enough to walk downtown…maybe we will!

No picture today folks…it’s spitting rain and looks dreary out, but tomorrow our trail riding ought to bring some fantastic views and photogenic moments.

Until then…I will leave you with this little diddy by Amanda Ventura…she is pretty fantastic:
