Let me start off by first saying…I like analogies, they help me process information and give me a fighting chance of explaining things to others “as I see it”.
Around mile marker 172 southbound in Virginia I started to see some fields that had a tinge of green…this excites me! Why? well if you know me you know just how much of a freak I am about my lawn. Yes…MY lawn. (I have a good friend that makes fun of my possessiveness, but what the hell…I worked hard on making that lawn look beautiful so yes…I will call it MY lawn!). I digress….but green pastures are coming our way people! It’s warmer down here which means their spring is just about to happen and ours will be too soon enough! Freedom is going to love the back yard and I imaging I will have many a dead frog delivered proudly from the retention pond out back.
This had me thinking while I drove today about all the things I have counseled students on…one of which was a common topic that I really need to teach myself how to do better. It all involves energy and effort.
There are a lot of electrical synergies I could make here, but I will spare you “most” of them. When we wake up in the morning…the best we have, solid great day is 100 percent. This is all we are capable of folks…don’t let anyone fool you with that 110% shit. As humans…we generally suck at really putting 100% of ourselves to task on a daily basis and thus the ones that get closer to that number are typically the successful people we know.
I believe that one of the biggest drivers to being successful is knowing how to allot your energy to the things that will have positive impact on you, and divert your energy away from the things that are negative or resistive. Simple right? It’s the simple things that kick our ass….they sneak up on you and before you know it, your sucking wind.
Part 1: Don’t be a 2 foot driver!
Why did I choose to write about this today? Well, since I have the time to take…I will tell you! Ever find yourself driving up hill and the car in front of you has had their brake lights on for the last 29 miles? Yeah…you know the one…and I am sure calling them a “2 foot driver” was not the vernacular you used š But…that’s what sent me down this rabbit hole of thoughts today…How in the HELL are you going to successfully reach the top of that hill when you have one foot on the friggen brake?!?!
I do this to much in life…I have to learn how to trust that the speed I am going is within my limits, and keep my energy focused on what’s ahead instead of on resisting success.
Part 2: What’s the right recipe for your daily energy drink?
Is it 20% living in the past reacting to what has already happened, 50% living in the now and 30% planning for the future? We all have a recipe we like…it’s our standard asking when we belly up and everyone says “NORM!”…but is it working for you? If it’s not (I certainly wasn’t for me)…then it’s time to take a moment with yourself and figure out a new recipe. I am going to discipline myself better in this area. For how horrible I remember things, I might as well not spend much time living in the past lol! I always have to plan ahead…but I need to spend more time in the now…not as easy to do for me. How do you budget your energy? What tools do you use to make adjustments? My tool box in this area is less prepared then I would like it…but Freedom is doing a good job taking care of Pappa these days and for that, I am thankful.
Tomorrow I will write about my Jelly Bean Theory, it takes todays message and brakes it down from “Past, present and future” to “Positive and negative”.
Until then, I hope you are “Taking the time” today for the things that matter to you. Two solid days of driving south to get where it’s warm and it’s going to snow here tonight…WTF! It’s ok though, I planned…got plenty of heat, a roof rake and a ladder to clean off the camper. Freedom will be happy to poop on snow again, this grass thing has had him all in a tizzy. Tonight’s goal…throwing up the new antenna and turning on the Ham Radio to see if I can make some contacts!
